What is DeepWater Counseling?

Updated: Jan 2

If you would have asked me a year ago, or even pre-covid, I would have never stated that I would be in the process of opening up my own private practice. There was no intention - that was not a part of the plan. However Covid happened, and just like many of you - I was left with a lot of questions and wondering what life would look like. I spent a great deal of time trying to figure out what my life would look like and in what capacity I would be providing counseling services. You see during the week, I work full time as a Lead Clinical Specialist providing family support to therapeutic foster families and I enjoy my job. I enjoy working collaboratively with the families and youth to come up with real-life solutions to real-world problems. I provide support, and sometimes just a listening ear to the youth and adults I work with. It is not traditional therapy but I can use a multitude of therapy skills I learned in my training. My job is very fulfilling, however, I was still left with this feeling that I was not fully embracing the calling God has placed on my life. Fast forward to several months of contemplation - I came across this verse, and it is where the concept of DeepWater Counseling LLC came from.

"Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out." Proverbs 20:5

To me this is the verse I want to embody as a counselor, and as a Christian. One thing I always want to be is understanding. I want to be understanding of what is going on in someone's life, and help build the skills to draw out the answers they are in search of. I want to be able to be empathetic and present with everyone in, and out of the counseling room. That is my goal with DeepWater Counseling LLC. I want to create a space where I can do just that. To provide quality mental health services through a Christian worldview.
